Elliot’s story

Elliot Day completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge with 20 friends in May 2021. It was to support his dad who needed a stem cell transplant after being diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).

I completed The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge with 20 friends in May 2021. We took it on to support my dad who needed a stem cell transplant after being diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).

The challenge was a lot harder than any of us expected. We were on our feet for 10 hours and walked 24 miles. It was a great effort and the weather was perfect. We raised an amazing £8,300 for Anthony Nolan. When you do something like this and raise that much money, you realise how many people’s lives it will help, which makes it all worthwhile.

You don’t have to scale rocky hillsides to move mountains. Your walk could fund the search for a matching stem cell donor that could give someone a second chance at life. How fantastic is that?

Mhairi’s story

SLF_Walk_310ksteps_Mhairi_01

I walked 310,000 steps throughout May with my family – 10,000 a day – while my little sister, Siân, was having treatment for Aplastic Anemia. We felt it was the perfect time to support Anthony Nolan. We’ve all experienced the relief and the emotion which is felt when a match is available for treatment, and we want to help others experience that feeling.

Anthony Nolan were so supportive, we can’t thank them enough. They gave us so many tips! For people thinking about fundraising in the future, you should form a team like our Team Kirk – the more the merrier. You can have the same fundraising page and share share share to spread the word. We were totally taken back by all the support and generosity of people around us. We’re so grateful.
