Former Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has today announced that he will retire from football following his leukaemia diagnosis two years ago. He is now working to set up a foundation to help address the issues related to leukaemia.

Henny Braund, Anthony Nolan’s Chief Executive, says, “We wish Stiliyan Petrov all the best with his new foundation to help others who are diagnosed with a blood cancer like leukaemia. As Stiliyan will no doubt have experienced, treatment for blood cancer, whether chemotherapy or a bone marrow transplant, can have a huge effect on patients mentally, physically and emotionally, so all research and support in this area is very welcome.”
