Baby Ronnie needs to find his match – urgently

You could give someone like Ronnie another chance to live

One-year-old Ronnie from Liverpool has just been diagnosed with severe aplastic anaemia, a bone marrow disorder that affects the production of healthy stem cells in the bone marrow. Born a healthy, happy baby, he’s now very unwell, and urgently needs a stem cell transplant to survive.

His parents are appealing for people to join the Anthony Nolan stem cell register. ‘Our aim is to raise awareness of aplastic anaemia, and of the stem cell register too – how easy it is to join, and how simple it is to donate your stem cells and save a life,’ Ronnie’s mum, Laura, says.

Nothing prepares you for the words, we suspect this may be leukaemia… The room went quiet, our hearts were pounding, and then instantly our minds were jumping to the worst-case scenario and thinking how is our baby meant to battle such a deadly disease at such a young age.
