Anthony Nolan has joined a growing list of charities to contribute to Do Some Good, a new app encouraging users to take five minutes of their time to help charitable organisations.  Anthony Nolan has created a survey in which it hopes to gain greater insight into attitudes surrounding blood stem cell donation, to help further the growth of its donor register.

Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with blood cancer by matching them to people willing to donate their blood stem cells for lifesaving transplants.  A survey earlier this year found that just 24% of people would definitely join a stem cell register.  Of those who wouldn’t consider registering, 37% said that they did not know enough about donating.

By creating a new survey on the app, Anthony Nolan hopes that Do Some Good will help provide more information about whether those attitudes have changed, particularly among younger audiences, who make the best donors.  According to the survey, people aged 18 to 25 are most likely to cite perceived pain of the process when asked about their reasons for not registering.

Richard Hall, head of marketing for Anthony Nolan, said,

“We're always thinking differently about ways to reach a young male audience, particularly via digital media, and Do Some Good provides an interesting platform for us to do just that.  Men aged 18-30 are most likely to be asked to donate, so the more we recruit from that group, the more lives we can save. Finding out about their views on stem cell donation will help us break down some of the barriers to signing up.”

To answer Anthony Nolan’s survey, download Do Some Good from Orange, search for Anthony Nolan and tell us what you think about stem cell donation.
