Where we are
The Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre is hosted within the Clinical Research Facility at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham.
Both medicals and collections are performed in the same unit, and you will be greeted by a member of staff when you arrive at the Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre Reception.

How to get here
Arriving by car:
If driving to Nottingham, we advise you use the Queens Drive Park & Ride. Please see directions here.

You can park here for free, and then catch the Medilink Bus to the Queens Medical Centre. The buses leave every 15 minutes, and the journey takes approximately 10 minutes. You can pay on the bus with the driver. A journey costs £3 for an adult, or £2 for under 19s.
When you arrive at the Queens Medical Centre, exit the bus at the stop for the tram station. From directly opposite here, you can go up the stairs or lifts to the tram bridge where there is the passage to the main hospital. From here, it is well signposted to the collection centre. There are usually volunteers who sit at this entrance to direct if needed.
If you wish to park at the Queens Medical Centre, the best car park to use is car park 3. Parking at the hospital is limited, so please allow plenty of time to find a space. Please make sure to pay for parking per instructions in the car park.

We advise using the Queens Drive Park & Ride, or public transport, wherever possible.
Arriving by public transport:
If you are travelling by train, the nearest station is Nottingham. From there, it is around 15 minutes by tram to reach Queens Medical Centre.
- Once you arrive at the station follow the signs to the trams.
- Please note you will need to buy a tram ticket before boarding from the machine on the platform. We are unable to book these in advance, but we will reimburse you for these costs
- Board the tram going towards Toton Lane (Bramcote Zone). They run every 7-10 minutes. Exit the tram at Queens Medical Centre, which is 4 stops.
When you exit the tram, head right towards the bridge which connects the Queens Medical Centre tram stop to the B Floor level of the hospital.
To travel back to Nottingham station, head back through the bridge to the tram stop and catch the tram going towards Hucknall.
Navigating the hospital
From the main entrance:
- To the right of the reception desk, take the corridor straight ahead towards South Block.
- Yellow dots on the floor will indicate you are on the central route.
- Follow the hallway down to the end, just before you reach the exit to the bridge take the last left, follow the corridor to the end, then turn right to take the lift up to E floor.
- Exit the lifts by turning left and following the corridor and Anthony Nolan signage until you see the Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre and Clinical Research Facility on your left.
- Inside the reception a member of our team will be waiting for you.
From the tram bridge:
- Head right following signs to Queen’s Medical Centre bridge.
- You will enter Queens Medical Centre on the B floor. Take the first right towards South Block.
- Follow the corridor to the end and turn right to take the lift up to E Floor.
- Exit the lifts by turning left and following the corridor and Anthony Nolan signage until you see the Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre and Clinical Research Facility on your left.
- Inside the reception a member of our team will be waiting for you.
From the South Block entrance:
- Enter South Block (for exact google maps location, click here) and you will find yourself in the lift lobby.
- Take the lift to E floor.
- Exit the lifts by turning left and following the corridor and Anthony Nolan signage until you see the Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre and Clinical Research Facility on your left.
- Inside the reception a member of our team will be waiting for you.
Places to eat
Lights meals, drinks and snack will be provided for you during your appointment at the Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre. There are also a number of food outlets within Queen’s Medical Centre including:

- Eatwell restaurant, D Floor, West Block, 7.30am-2.30pm, Mon-Fri
- Fontanella café, Main Entrance, B Floor, 7.00am-11.30pm, Mon-Fri, 8.00am-11.30pm, Sat and Sun

Useful information
The unit is open plan and has a total of 6 beds. When you go for your medical and donation you will see a mix of other donors donating their live saving stem cells.
Pre-medical: Ensure you’re well hydrated and have eaten. You’ll be offered hot and cold beverages on the day and refreshments, if required.
Pre-collection (PBSC): Ensure you’re well hydrated 1-2 days prior. If you have any bone pain/headaches from the G-CSF injections, you can take pain relief. If you’re unsure what to take, please speak to your coordinator.
You will be offered hot and cold drinks on the day. Light refreshments are available on the unit, and hot and cold lunch options will be provided. Any dietary requirements should be able to be accommodated.
Donors, patients and visitors can access free wifi by connecting to ‘NHS Free Wifi’ on their device.
