Eleven year old Dominic Hitchman from Urmston has been shortlisted for the Little Hero of the Year Award at the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards 2013. The Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards recognise outstanding individuals who have contributed to the blood cancer charity over the last year.

Young campaigner Dominic Hitchman is part of the Match for Martin campaign who have had a significant impact by recruiting donors in the Manchester area. Dominic is a family friend of Martin Solomon and was upset when he was told that his age prevented him from registering as a donor for Martin. Instead, he has taken it upon himself to raise awareness about donation and has attended every donor recruitment event in the last year, going out and encouraging young people to join the Anthony Nolan register. Dominic has been shortlisted for Little Hero of the Year, which was an award open to public nominations.

Henny Braund, Chief Executive at Anthony Nolan, says, “Dominic is only eleven years old and already has had a significant impact by telling young people about the importance of bone marrow donation. Martin is now doing well but the community’s determination to engage donors and support the charity is unwavering. The ‘Match for Martin’ appeal is a remarkable campaign and I am so pleased that Dominic has been shortlisted for this award."

The awards ceremony takes place on 4th November in the House of Commons and winners will be announced at the event.
