Douglas resident Eugene Wilson has been shortlisted for Individual Fundraiser of the Year at the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards 2013. The Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards recognise outstanding individuals who have contributed to the blood cancer charity over the last year.

Eugene’s daughter, Lisa, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2004 and was told that she needed a bone marrow transplant. She was too ill to have a transplant and passed away in 2005, aged just 22.

Eugene was inspired to fundraise for Anthony Nolan, the blood cancer charity which uses its register to match potential bone marrow donors to blood cancer patients in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant. Eugene has now run six marathons for Anthony Nolan, taken on the Great Wall of China trek, and will be running the Virgin Money London Marathon 2014. To date he has raised over £25,000 for Anthony Nolan.

Henny Braund, Chief Executive at Anthony Nolan, says, “Lisa was a courageous young woman who stayed strong throughout her treatment and inspired those around her. Lisa’s fight is reflected in Eugene’s determination to raise vital funds for Anthony Nolan and her legacy continues in the many lives that will be saved because of this. Eugene is an incredible supporter of the charity and we’re delighted that he has been shortlisted for this award.“

The awards ceremony takes place on 4th November in the House of Commons and winners will be announced at the event.
