Anthony Nolan’s Chief Executive was last night named Charity Principal of the Year at the prestigious Charity Times awards.

Against impressive competition from leaders of prominent charities including Battersea Dog’s Home and Everton Football Club’s community programme, Henny Braund secured the top spot after having doubled Anthony Nolan’s income and setting out a clear strategy to double the number of lives saved by the blood cancer charity.

With warm acknowledgment, Ms Braund attributed her success to the support of the people around her.

“It is a huge honour to have won this significant award. It is always humbling to receive the respect and approval of contemporaries, especially when they are dedicated to causes as worthy as theirs. Yet however clichéd it may sound, I really feel this award represents the hard work and talent of the people at Anthony Nolan, and while I feel a real sense of personal pride, I very much accept this award on their behalf.”

Andrew Holt, editor of Charity Times magazine, praised Henny for her clarity of vision and sense of purpose.

“In a category that was immensely strong, Henny’s clear leadership and fantastic accomplishments, having overseen the development and implementation of an ambitious strategy to double the number of lives Anthony Nolan save, really stood out,” he said. “For Henny to win such a significant award as the Charity Times Charity Principal of the Year highlights the fantastic work she has undertaken in the last twelve months.”

The annual gala dinner, this year set at the upmarket Lancaster London Hotel and hosted by comedian and broadcaster Marcus Brigstocke, honours the achievements of charitable organisations across a range of categories, including Fundraising Team of the Year and Rising CEO star.

Ms Braund took the award only 12 months after Anthony Nolan was named Charity of the year at the 2012 ceremony.
