Cord Blood Collection – Dolapo Ogundimo is a new mum who donated her baby's cord blood. Her son, Cyprien, is a born lifesaver!

Donate your umbilical cord

Umbilical cords are amazing. Yours gave your baby life. Now it could give life to someone else.

Your little one could be a little lifesaver

After your baby is safely born, you could give someone with blood cancer or a blood disorder another chance at life by donating your baby’s umbilical cord. The stem cells in cord blood may be used for potentially lifesaving transplants, as well as research and the development of future therapies. That’s a pretty amazing way to start your little one’s life!

What is the Anthony Nolan Cord Blood Programme?

We are a non-for-profit charity that offer mothers the opportunity to donate their cord blood and tissue to help save and improve lives.

Our cord collection teams currently work in five hospitals across the UK:

  • King's College Hospital (London)
  • Saint Mary's Hospital, Oxford Road (Manchester)
  • Saint Mary's Hospital, Wythenshawe (Manchester)
  • Leicester Royal Infirmary
  • Leicester General Hospital

If you’re pregnant and planning to give birth at one of these hospitals, you can register your interest in cord donation today.

A quick history of the programme

2007

The first mum to donate cord blood to Anthony Nolan delivers at King's College Hospital.

2012

The first stem cell transplant using stem cells from the Anthony Nolan Cord Blood.

2019

An amazing milestone is achieved: 50,000 mums donated via Anthony Nolan's Cord Blood Programme.

2026

Over 78,000 mothers have donated their cord blood since 2007 and over 300 stem cell transplants have used cord blood since 2012.

We are very proud to have donated our son’s cord to such a wonderful cause. Thirty years ago, my aunty Beverley had her bone marrow transplant through Anthony Nolan which saved her life. So, when my son Freddie was born at Saint Mary’s Hospital, we donated his cord to Anthony Nolan to hopefully save someone else’s life.

Rachel, who donated her son's cord blood in 2021. You can read more stories like Rachel's on our Cord Donation Stories page.
