The Anthony Nolan Cell Therapy Centre processes and stores cord blood for national and international clinical transplantation centres.
The centre also carries out world-class research using blood of non-clinical standard, and supplies cord blood to other approved research programmes throughout Europe. We hope academics and scientists can use our blood to improve cord blood banking strategies and develop new lifesaving therapies.
If you’re a healthcare professional looking for umbilical cord blood for allogeneic stem cell transplantation, please contact our Operations department on 0303 303 0303 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will list any suitable Anthony Nolan banked cord blood on search reports provided. We can import cord blood from international cord blood banks as required.
If you’re from a European-based academic research department/university, the NHS, a private/public healthcare provider, a pharmaceutical company, a biotechnology company, a government agency or another healthcare charity, and are interested in sourcing cord blood for research, please contact our Cord Research team.

Opened in 2008 by the UK Secretary of State for Health in the grounds of Nottingham Trent University, the Anthony Nolan Cell Therapy Centre is the first to combine cord blood storage with a research institute developing new techniques to use it. We set up the centre with the help of the James Tudor Foundation and the East Midlands Development Agency.
We extensively test all cord blood we receive to check it is suitable for transplantation. An inventory of clinical and research units has been generated dependent on quality thresholds. The final product is qualified using validated assays. This includes sterility, viability, functionality, purity and total number of cell assays, virology and HLA (tissue type) testing.
Cords of clinical quality have their details recorded on our database. We search them automatically when a national or international transplant team use our registry services.
‘This could become the leading cord blood programme in the world. Combining cord blood and research with donor registers, it is a unique model.’
Professor Alejandro Madrigal, Director of Research, Anthony Nolan
