The new Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre

The new Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre is dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art apheresis services. By enabling faster and greater collection of stem cells, the centre will facilitate more lifesaving treatments and alleviate supply chain bottle necks for cell and gene therapies.

Alongside boosting capacity for collection, this facility is designed to:

  • Support cell and gene therapy research, innovation and development – with increased availability of cellular starting material to drive innovation and advancement across all phases of research, development and commercialisation.
  • Provide more flexibility in collection slots – to give greater control of timelines for the right match and specification of cellular starting materials to suit your needs.
  • Enable faster cell collection to processing timeframes. The cell collection centre is located in Nottingham, close to our cell therapy centre, meaning faster processing of cells for greater viability and consistency.

The centre is operating in partnership with the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), Nottingham Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, enhancing our collaborative efforts in advancing healthcare solutions and furthering our trusted NHS partnerships.

Our donors

The industry relies on access to starting material that comes from people donating their cells. This is not only true for allogeneic products – autologous therapies also require healthy donor material for process development and optimisation. What's more, patients become donors themselves when giving their cells for manufacture or gene editing.

By working with Anthony Nolan, you’ll benefit from our:

  • Excellent standards of donor care to make provision reliable and scalable with good donor recallability.
  • Donor material suitable for use in GMP manufacturing.
  • Secured consent for use of donor material from R&D to commercialisation.
  • Donor search and selection capabilities to meet HLA, age, sex, and medical history requirements.
  • Expertise in looking after apheresis donors and recipients. Especially relevant if you’re developing a therapy outside blood cancer and aren’t familiar with the side effects of apheresis.

Established Cord Blood Bank

Since its inception in 2008, the Anthony Nolan Cord Blood Bank has become a vital resource, now housing over 10,000 high-quality cord blood units. Our active collection program engages over 6,000 new donors each year, providing a diverse range of materials for clinical and research applications.
