10
00:01:16.180 --> 00:01:26.297
Thank you so much for being on Anthony and podcast. It's so great to meet you. Thank you. I'm really happy to be here yet

11
00:01:26.381 --> 00:01:30.980
delighted to have you on your story to tell your story.

12
00:01:31.600 --> 00:01:33.200
I think it was.

13
00:01:33.540 --> 00:01:37.940
Majoritively the ship back. I had no idea what I was doing when I was diagnosed and

14
00:01:38.800 --> 00:01:45.981
I started going on social media and looking at other girls who in a similar position or other girls who were a few months

15
00:01:46.040 --> 00:01:53.043
down the line and I still have they were showing their stories and I thought that's a really good way to document what

16
00:01:53.102 --> 00:01:58.800
you're going through. I use as my own personal diary and also I found it so helpful I could see.

17
00:01:59.540 --> 00:02:06.742
Follow one girl who is a few months, when did they cut their hair? Did they cut it in stages or do they just shave it all

18
00:02:06.801 --> 00:02:07.040
off?

19
00:02:07.240 --> 00:02:09.740
Because I have no idea.

20
00:02:10.240 --> 00:02:17.157
what to do where you're going up and the last thing you know anything I just shaved my hair off now or how am I going to

21
00:02:17.215 --> 00:02:20.040
feel you know all these other things so I thought

22
00:02:20.600 --> 00:02:29.189
I'm going to follow these girls try and get some hints and tips but then if I can start showing my story to then other

23
00:02:29.261 --> 00:02:31.300
girls may find it helpful as

24
00:02:31.420 --> 00:02:33.720
Others have help me yeah that makes sense.

25
00:02:34.560 --> 00:02:43.120
And I got idea and see what I can learn from others and then put that in my own blog my own personal experience and one as

26
00:02:43.190 --> 00:02:47.260
your own. I think for me is I found my Instagram using it.

27
00:02:47.840 --> 00:02:55.671
like my Daily Journal is really helped me so I could remember what happened at each stage but also for venting and getting

28
00:02:55.735 --> 00:03:02.540
everything off my chest or any queries and the world of social media everyone can help answer questions so

29
00:03:02.700 --> 00:03:10.350
You know I think that's probably the main reason and it's so important if you like within that there's a crazy signs and

30
00:03:10.414 --> 00:03:17.300
symptoms as well as the reality is like the day. I feel awful and that brutally honest and that's important.

31
00:03:17.820 --> 00:03:26.050
You're that I think I mean everyone so guilty of using social media as you know these are my highlights. It's like a

32
00:03:26.121 --> 00:03:30.520
highlight really isn't it? So I'm guilty of it. I've gone out.

33
00:03:31.340 --> 00:03:33.440
yoga for 10 minutes

34
00:03:35.340 --> 00:03:40.240
For the rest of the week, I'm sat in bed or I felt really awful and I just didn't want to share.

35
00:03:40.740 --> 00:03:47.096
Too much of the positives of I wanted to be real and to see the reality and what's normal going through cancer yeah, and

36
00:03:47.149 --> 00:03:52.340
that makes it better than for those people who are going through something similar. It's not like.

37
00:03:52.460 --> 00:03:55.660
sunshine and Rainbows and Steph film using a taxi highlighter

38
00:03:55.880 --> 00:04:01.972
Some days, I'm going to feel bad just what comes with it and I would look at other people going through their own cancer

39
00:04:02.023 --> 00:04:08.064
journey, and I would look at it on my gosh. They're doing so much so doing so much more than you know they're going out

40
00:04:08.115 --> 00:04:14.309
exercising every day while I'm sitting here feeling sorry for myself and it got to the point where I just thought you need

41
00:04:14.360 --> 00:04:18.980
to stop looking at this and you just need to follow your own rhythm and make sure you show.

42
00:04:19.440 --> 00:04:27.595
It's not all positive. There are some really tough times, but it's just showing a balance. I think absolutely and as

43
00:04:27.666 --> 00:04:36.032
personal as well and help sometimes and compared to others or whatever they're doing like we all compare. Don't need so

44
00:04:36.103 --> 00:04:44.540
it's important to bring it back to this story. I'm on my own like a personal journey and so you've had more chemotherapy

45
00:04:44.610 --> 00:04:53.188
and then you had your stem cell transplant in October there now in 2019 following a Relapse so how was that experience for

46
00:04:53.258 --> 00:04:53.540
you?

47
00:04:54.740 --> 00:05:00.340
Relaxing came totally out of the blue. I had a lot of friends who.

48
00:05:00.700 --> 00:05:02.200
I finish at 6-months of

49
00:05:02.460 --> 00:05:09.158
I'm chemotherapy for hodgkin's lymphoma and they said you're constantly going to be worried about the council coming back

50
00:05:09.213 --> 00:05:15.967
every calf ache pain you're going to think it's cancer and I didn't I just thought when I've done my treat. It's luckily a

51
00:05:16.022 --> 00:05:17.960
highly treatable disease so I went.

52
00:05:18.240 --> 00:05:26.073
Ask me finish. That's it. So when I went in for my 3-month scan and to get my results. I was thinking right will sailing

53
00:05:26.138 --> 00:05:32.340
say hi to perform them off we go again and been told you Relapse in the council's back. It just

54
00:05:32.860 --> 00:05:39.160
Knocked me for six course first time round I was so positive everything was fine you going.

55
00:05:39.420 --> 00:05:46.503
It sounds odd saying it's all fun, but it's all new experiences. I think you can try and find the fun in it and try and

56
00:05:46.562 --> 00:05:49.420
see the excitement in you know different things.

57
00:05:49.880 --> 00:05:51.380
Having already done it you go.

58
00:05:51.640 --> 00:05:57.840
I know what's round the corner. So did take me a while to pull my socks up and go.

59
00:05:59.180 --> 00:06:04.180
You got this you've just got to get into the room again. So those three months of chemo.

60
00:06:04.720 --> 00:06:10.837
Would tough but manageable the side effects are actually a lot easier than the first time round so it's just getting my

61
00:06:10.889 --> 00:06:12.020
head back in the game.

62
00:06:12.960 --> 00:06:20.060
And then it was the stem cell transplant. I don't think you can fully prepare.

63
00:06:20.500 --> 00:06:27.632
Yourself for what it's going to be like I spoke to 10 million people had already gone through it all the doctor's I done

64
00:06:27.691 --> 00:06:33.100
so much research as offer list for to take and I thought right I'm going to go in now this.

65
00:06:36.340 --> 00:06:42.510
Play music Evans cancer journey, isn't it is also different so where I went also at this day. I'm going to feel like this

66
00:06:42.561 --> 00:06:44.040
and this day. I lose my hair.

67
00:06:44.240 --> 00:06:47.140
I was completely backwards to everything. I thought was going to happen.

68
00:06:48.600 --> 00:06:50.900
Is this you getting?

69
00:06:51.140 --> 00:06:57.140
I think well with a lot of cancer treatment is you get your head down you take it day by day yeah and just

70
00:06:57.460 --> 00:07:04.440
Do the best you can so I went into the hospital when you get a week of high-dose chemotherapy and that was fine because I

71
00:07:04.498 --> 00:07:10.960
still allowed at the hospital. I could have it or pop around and there's only four and I got my stem cells back.

72
00:07:11.240 --> 00:07:19.089
Avon hospital, lockdown because your neutrophils are really low and that's only started feeling quite unwell and those few

73
00:07:19.153 --> 00:07:19.540
weeks.

74
00:07:19.760 --> 00:07:23.360
I won't lie they were very.

75
00:07:25.060 --> 00:07:26.260
I got quite unwell.

76
00:07:26.680 --> 00:07:36.260
Towards the middle of it and I got pneumonia and feeling very sorry for myself and you know it was it was a very

77
00:07:36.345 --> 00:07:46.353
interesting experience and are being done that you did it again and then like a completely different ball game like a

78
00:07:46.439 --> 00:07:56.703
completely different ball game. So you'll get used to going to chemo either every two weeks or weekly but feels only for

79
00:07:56.789 --> 00:08:06.968
either day or hours and then you're not home again. Yeah, but when it's the stem cell transplant and they say look it's

80
00:08:07.053 --> 00:08:08.080
going to be.

81
00:08:08.280 --> 00:08:10.080
Probably about 4 weeks.

82
00:08:10.340 --> 00:08:11.440
a hospital room

83
00:08:11.800 --> 00:08:20.263
You won't be allowed out your in isolation. I'm in at first. I'm thinking people can be coming in the room and I hazmat

84
00:08:20.334 --> 00:08:28.300
suits on window to wave at people and that's all the contacts. I'm going to have turned out in your room lights.

85
00:08:36.480 --> 00:08:39.980
I think going into it you try and prepare yourself as much as you can.

86
00:08:40.760 --> 00:08:43.260
Each day with different even if I was getting the chemo.

87
00:08:43.460 --> 00:08:44.760
Which was the same everyday?

88
00:08:45.500 --> 00:08:52.260
How to have different feelings each day or even you know sometimes I'll be happy or the chemo effects of be a bit

89
00:08:52.320 --> 00:08:59.500
different so you just couldn't tell what it was going to be like and I went in thinking. I'm going to block all of this.

0
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:01.100
Play all of it.

1
00:00:01.400 --> 00:00:06.871
so I can put it together you know be great for someone else and it got to about maybe a week and a half in when I started

2
00:00:06.917 --> 00:00:08.500
feeling really unwell and I thought

3
00:00:08.780 --> 00:00:10.780
I can't do that and I just

4
00:00:11.360 --> 00:00:14.060
Have you it's better me and at the end of the day?

5
00:00:14.320 --> 00:00:20.707
Me blogging something isn't that so you have to put yourself first and don't think I need to call someone I need text

6
00:00:20.762 --> 00:00:24.420
someone I need to make sure that I'm doing this email going to say.

7
00:00:24.660 --> 00:00:27.560
This is the time in hospital whatever happens happens.

8
00:00:27.940 --> 00:00:30.740
If I just need to sit do nothing.

9
00:00:31.120 --> 00:00:32.620
Set a ceiling.

10
00:00:33.500 --> 00:00:40.683
That's what you going to do when you're giving treatment. It's sort of what you're saying earlier. Ok? I'll do this bit

11
00:00:40.743 --> 00:00:47.866
and then I wondered that sometimes as you say, it's just taking it moment by moment day by day isolation require a new

12
00:00:47.927 --> 00:00:54.989
environment. Was you going in another hospital doing your chemo then going home. Where is not confined to a room that

13
00:00:55.050 --> 00:01:00.000
yeah, I hadn't had more than a couple of days in jail before that yeah, so saying.

14
00:01:00.180 --> 00:01:05.180
Weeks, are you going to be in there? You're not going to be allowed out after the first few days of isolation. I thought

15
00:01:05.660 --> 00:01:10.360
Wow, this is actually going to be really tough but unfortunately when the effects of the transplant take place.

16
00:01:11.180 --> 00:01:15.380
You start to feel quite unwell. You can't really do much so most of the time.

17
00:01:15.620 --> 00:01:24.805
Laying in bed sleeping, is it all you're going to do anyway? And I didn't want visitors. I didn't want to talk to anyone

18
00:01:24.882 --> 00:01:34.145
who is just I just want to get through this. Yeah. I think that's definitely strength and today. I don't want to visit. I

19
00:01:34.221 --> 00:01:43.560
don't want to do anything but that's just not right now. I'm in my family were amazing and my pets a cuppa come up all the

20
00:01:43.637 --> 00:01:44.020
time.

21
00:01:44.640 --> 00:01:47.640
Maybe sometimes my mum will come up to come in the room ok?

22
00:01:47.860 --> 00:01:54.360
I don't want to see anyone today know and she's going to sit in the waiting room all day. Just to be there.

23
00:01:54.640 --> 00:02:06.177
I just couldn't have anyone in my room. Yeah, it was my little spot. I needed my space and she was I mean and I live in an

24
00:02:06.272 --> 00:02:17.715
hour away from the hospital so she's come up sit in the waiting room then can say goodbye anything in your hair, but just

25
00:02:17.810 --> 00:02:29.348
want to be by myself and that's because I've always been always be around people connecting with people and chatting and I

26
00:02:29.443 --> 00:02:31.240
never be by myself.

27
00:02:32.020 --> 00:02:34.920
I think the start of the stem cell transplant was very much. No.

28
00:02:35.100 --> 00:02:37.300
I actually think I need to get my head down.

29
00:02:38.080 --> 00:02:42.180
Really try and comprehend what's about to happen and if I need my own space.

30
00:02:43.000 --> 00:02:52.900
And that's what you need to help and understand so whatever you need.

31
00:02:53.520 --> 00:02:54.420
Just let them know.

32
00:02:55.340 --> 00:03:05.007
Night Live than they can know what you're up to me that needs support you with it amazing. Thank you. So one thing I found

33
00:03:05.086 --> 00:03:14.436
so fascinating Georgie is how you can find the sun in someone for example of what a unicorn onesie to chemotherapy you

34
00:03:14.516 --> 00:03:22.440
give nicknames for your lump, was it back yet until I sleep in your head as well for your hair loss.

35
00:03:22.700 --> 00:03:28.772
Evident that you have such a creative approach to expressing this work experience so how do you and did you find this

36
00:03:28.824 --> 00:03:30.900
underneath difficult situations I think.

37
00:03:31.040 --> 00:03:34.440
where is funny when I first got diagnosed I

38
00:03:34.880 --> 00:03:40.944
Thrown in really quickly, I literally got the news I have Stage 4 cancer on the Thursday I was in the hospital the next

39
00:03:40.995 --> 00:03:45.480
day for chemotherapy order to happen so quickly that I don't think I had time to really.

40
00:03:45.900 --> 00:03:56.777
Register the seriousness of process it going I'm going to have fun. So when chemo chemo parties that have a family of four

41
00:03:56.866 --> 00:04:00.700
biscuits which have a little picnic corner.

42
00:04:01.260 --> 00:04:04.260
Go around la patience and have a little chit-chat.

43
00:04:06.760 --> 00:04:10.760
I've got to have fun. Otherwise. I'm going to probably go crazy as you.

44
00:04:12.020 --> 00:04:17.853
obviously that doesn't last the whole way through and they going to have mental struggles and I've suffered in the past

45
00:04:17.902 --> 00:04:22.020
quite badly with depression and I just thought I can't go down the Rabbit Hole Again

46
00:04:23.360 --> 00:04:25.860
If you're able to recognise the sort of symptoms.

47
00:04:26.160 --> 00:04:30.360
No, put a stop to it yet, but I think that's what I was trying to do a screen.

48
00:04:30.600 --> 00:04:34.800
Today if you see the bright side if you see the funny if you see the positive.

49
00:04:35.060 --> 00:04:39.860
Roll with it so I did I mean I'll be out with Mum I think this is around Christmas time.

50
00:04:40.440 --> 00:04:43.440
And we were in a London department store.

51
00:04:43.860 --> 00:04:52.560
Giant Christmas baubles and I thought I need one like it's literally my head. This is it and I think if you can.

52
00:04:52.720 --> 00:04:53.720
Laugh at yourself.

53
00:04:54.760 --> 00:05:03.878
As well cos you know I think by the end of it. I looked a bit like a spoon. You lose all of your eyebrows and eyelashes

54
00:05:03.954 --> 00:05:13.226
and you've just gotta roll with the punches like it's happening in your change my attitude for it felt like the world was

55
00:05:13.302 --> 00:05:18.360
ending yeah, and you have to accept that you have to let yourself.

56
00:05:19.040 --> 00:05:25.040
That way I know that it's normal and know that it's ok to have these feelings because it will make it easier to.

57
00:05:25.180 --> 00:05:36.900
Have a good day again exam with yourself and today. I am going to feel sad today, so don't push yourself out if you're

58
00:05:36.999 --> 00:05:39.880
feeling and I'm not yourself.

59
00:05:40.540 --> 00:05:48.343
Take a day take a couple of days. Take whatever time you need do what's going to help you if that's staying in bed for the

60
00:05:48.407 --> 00:05:56.147
next 3 days to stay in bed, if it's going out walking whatever it is. Just do it and then hopefully you'll find something

61
00:05:56.211 --> 00:06:04.015
funny in the next couple of days and I'll break your spirit and your website carry on it seems like you're going to get to

62
00:06:04.079 --> 00:06:11.819
the point where can burnt I will be with the feelings and be with that ok today. I feel low and then as you say you might

63
00:06:11.883 --> 00:06:19.240
find the energy the next day then that I wrote that I can sit on the couch with a giant chocolate bar in your pugs.

64
00:06:24.400 --> 00:06:28.100
Sucker for them on the wrist.

65
00:06:29.900 --> 00:06:32.300
My little angels, but they also.

66
00:06:33.040 --> 00:06:36.040
Like such comfort Sharon comforts.

67
00:06:36.440 --> 00:06:45.514
Taking it gently that's so kind to do it for me because on the days that I want to get some fresh air I could take them

68
00:06:45.590 --> 00:06:53.140
out for a walk or if I felt really upset and just want to suck the couch piglet would lick my head.

69
00:06:53.300 --> 00:06:57.700
My balls are constantly hours and you're so tired.

70
00:06:58.220 --> 00:07:01.920
Can't be bothered you need to do.

71
00:07:02.640 --> 00:07:03.540
and him

72
00:07:03.900 --> 00:07:11.400
She got cancer so what I was going through my treatment. She got a form of lymphoma and I was ok.

73
00:07:11.840 --> 00:07:13.140
Is it from my head?

74
00:07:13.520 --> 00:07:28.140
Incidents on the outdoor them, I don't know what I'd do without them and if that's your source of support like you know

75
00:07:28.262 --> 00:07:42.637
that there for you. It's reliable you can take them for a walk that as a way to cope and I'm a big I think if you get

76
00:07:42.760 --> 00:07:43.620
cancer.

77
00:07:45.580 --> 00:07:52.180
trust me I know it's definitely doesn't really

78
00:07:52.360 --> 00:08:01.142
One day one day definitely another area of the advocates for Georgie is the importance of talking about body confidence.

79
00:08:01.216 --> 00:08:09.486
Can you tell me about your time working with Stand Up to Cancer and glamour Magazine about body company? I really

80
00:08:09.559 --> 00:08:18.415
struggled with my body confidence and that was like since. I've been little so being diagnosed time does Thursday through

81
00:08:18.488 --> 00:08:19.660
a bit of a loop.

82
00:08:19.960 --> 00:08:25.460
You're already know I can't wait. It's going to change the meat. You know a lot of people that lose weight.

83
00:08:25.580 --> 00:08:33.021
Putting on a lot of weight you lose your hair my skin went funny. I was weak. I lost my eyebrows it. Just Changes

84
00:08:33.087 --> 00:08:40.923
Everything and it got to the point where I look in the mirror and I couldn't recognise myself. I lost my identity and I

85
00:08:40.989 --> 00:08:41.780
just thought

86
00:08:42.400 --> 00:08:51.257
is it the end of the world and it was like that for quite a long time especially from my first lot of treatment, I really

87
00:08:51.330 --> 00:08:53.600
struggled and in remission it's

88
00:08:54.420 --> 00:08:56.520
You know you reach remission and you can get.

89
00:08:56.780 --> 00:08:58.180
snap back to normal

90
00:08:58.460 --> 00:08:59.660
my long blonde hair

0
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:06.832
Can I restore the week? You know? I couldn't get an exercise? I didn't like my body. I don't like the way I felt and I so

1
00:00:06.888 --> 00:00:13.100
just didn't recognise myself because my hair is growing but I've never had short hair before I did like it in.

2
00:00:13.500 --> 00:00:18.100
They all just got to the point where it was a really tough battle to be able to look in the mirror.

3
00:00:19.360 --> 00:00:29.160
Oh, I look really nice. I'm not take me hours trying to find an outfit because nothing matched my bald head that exactly.

4
00:00:30.060 --> 00:00:31.760
so when Stand Up to Cancer

5
00:00:32.360 --> 00:00:38.160
I mentioned that they were doing something with you. No body confidence and cancer and if I wanted to be involved with or

6
00:00:38.400 --> 00:00:45.400
Absolutely yeah, this is definitely something I need to throw myself into and I think the week before.

7
00:00:46.640 --> 00:00:49.040
the actual shoot

8
00:00:49.360 --> 00:00:55.260
I can't do this bike. What have I signed up for I'm not confident in my own skin. I can't see.

9
00:00:55.440 --> 00:01:01.240
Do a nude photoshoot and say I'm so happy with the toilet because I don't like it. I'm home.

10
00:01:01.440 --> 00:01:02.140
Just do it.

11
00:01:03.100 --> 00:01:10.943
And the day and immediately it just felt right. I mean all the crew. Love you the photographer Alex Hammond lovely.

12
00:01:11.011 --> 00:01:19.196
Obviously all the team that sounded wonderful and it was just very natural having a good honest discussion and it was ok

13
00:01:19.264 --> 00:01:27.381
to talk about the dark bits in any areas that you aren't comfortable with and how it made you feel in it was very much.

14
00:01:27.449 --> 00:01:29.700
You know cancer took my identity.

15
00:01:30.720 --> 00:01:33.220
And I don't recognise her. I am so how can I accept?

16
00:01:33.620 --> 00:01:41.920
This new me if I don't recognise me in it yes, yeah, so we did this photo shoot and it was.

17
00:01:42.200 --> 00:01:49.595
the most terrifying but apparently I've ever done and they said you were going to film your reaction ok, the one of the

18
00:01:49.657 --> 00:01:50.900
images and I thought

19
00:01:51.220 --> 00:02:03.120
That's not good. I thought it was terrible but they showed me the image and I burst into tears.

20
00:02:03.820 --> 00:02:10.871
Happiness and it was funny because I actually said you know I couldn't really associate myself with that same person on

21
00:02:10.931 --> 00:02:18.160
the screen because it's as looking at woman and I thought like strength and my hair and beauty and I could really see just

22
00:02:18.220 --> 00:02:21.420
how happy she was and I think they're going on my car.

23
00:02:21.660 --> 00:02:25.260
I don't want to look in the mirror see now look at that picture and I go.

24
00:02:25.660 --> 00:02:33.065
That's you you need to look at yourself like this and accept your body and be confident in your own skin and it I think it

25
00:02:33.126 --> 00:02:40.349
does encourage you to Embrace the things are a little bit more and Embrace the things that you don't really like to the

26
00:02:40.410 --> 00:02:41.260
minute you do.

27
00:02:41.840 --> 00:02:52.640
You have so much more power and that's how you feel just like yeah, I think so many of my friends.

28
00:02:54.060 --> 00:02:55.560
a similar thing is

29
00:02:55.780 --> 00:03:01.180
We all kinda feel the same we feel like cancer stole identity. Yeah, you know we're trying to evolve.

30
00:03:01.480 --> 00:03:05.680
How we looking and how we feeling and it's so tough because you think this isn't.

31
00:03:05.860 --> 00:03:13.203
Do I choose to be a white used to look like and obviously with that enhances its you know you can have mastectomy or lose

32
00:03:13.263 --> 00:03:20.546
limbs or there's so many things your body can go through when it's not letting you know part of the body to me, but that

33
00:03:20.607 --> 00:03:27.950
isn't was going to find you. I don't look in the mirror and just see that it's look at what your body is doing for you. I

34
00:03:28.011 --> 00:03:30.560
keep going to work with it again and that.

35
00:03:31.000 --> 00:03:34.900
I think a big thing for me is being out to say I shouldn't be.

36
00:03:35.020 --> 00:03:40.920
Where I can get my body and not want anything to do with it. I should be loving it. It's my home is trying to save me.

37
00:03:41.420 --> 00:03:44.420
I need to hear it on then.

38
00:03:44.680 --> 00:03:55.168
I hate it so that she was the best thing I've ever done. It sounds like you had a huge mental shift of the as you said

39
00:03:55.257 --> 00:03:57.480
there was no you're like.

40
00:03:57.820 --> 00:04:00.520
Wow, I don't recognise myself and then for someone almost.

41
00:04:01.500 --> 00:04:17.000
A little bit like that it was amazing to do that also. I just hope that other people were able to see it.

42
00:04:18.040 --> 00:04:21.540
Not be terrified of my bottom screen.

43
00:04:23.940 --> 00:04:29.440
Do you know if someone can sit here and say they're so terrified? They didn't like the way they look they didn't see them.

44
00:04:29.720 --> 00:04:35.220
Is that person be able to do it? So are you telling me that walk around naked no.

45
00:04:35.620 --> 00:04:48.487
You can look and Embrace the new you and just embrace what your body is going through and I don't know just try and run

46
00:04:48.595 --> 00:05:01.679
with that yeah and just roll with those yeah, and just be gentle and kind about it and everybody yeah, you are strong you

47
00:05:01.787 --> 00:05:02.220
are.

48
00:05:02.380 --> 00:05:07.380
and it's tough obviously not every day is I feel really confident in my own skin because

49
00:05:07.860 --> 00:05:13.763
No, that's not true none of us are but it's just going to be able to I think see your body in a different light not that

50
00:05:13.812 --> 00:05:13.960
it.

51
00:05:14.220 --> 00:05:15.920
negative and working against us

52
00:05:16.400 --> 00:05:24.183
You know your body is doing everything in its power to have you going to have embrace it and be confident in it and

53
00:05:24.251 --> 00:05:32.373
there's some people find out because it's it gets left out of the discussion about when we talk about the new normal and

54
00:05:32.441 --> 00:05:40.698
that might mean you work about your family as you find out so I look at me like how you feeling your body is such a better

55
00:05:40.766 --> 00:05:43.000
because then you get its medical.

56
00:05:43.380 --> 00:05:49.654
This is the treatment you're going to have your side effects. This is you know how long you going to be in it for like you

57
00:05:49.705 --> 00:05:52.380
said when you go back to work and nothing is really.

58
00:05:53.000 --> 00:05:58.400
So internal that the squishy bit inside you doesn't really get looked after so.

59
00:05:58.560 --> 00:06:07.190
I think it's very important to make sure you look after the inner. You are very wise words so really what helps you to

60
00:06:07.263 --> 00:06:15.455
cope and how do you look after your mental health then during this all of course. I mean everyone is going to be

61
00:06:15.528 --> 00:06:16.260
different.

62
00:06:16.660 --> 00:06:22.539
And as long as you can try and find something that if you're feeling low or struggling or you need a little encouragement

63
00:06:22.588 --> 00:06:23.560
as long as you have.

64
00:06:23.780 --> 00:06:25.880
Little go to list of things you can do.

65
00:06:26.280 --> 00:06:30.080
Make sure you just repeat them and for me it.

66
00:06:31.020 --> 00:06:35.420
Taking time for myself. I've been very lucky I have.

67
00:06:35.600 --> 00:06:43.690
Big support network my parents have been amazing better means I am with someone 24/7. Yeah, so is someone nearby exactly

68
00:06:43.758 --> 00:06:44.500
and I need.

69
00:06:44.600 --> 00:06:50.600
Georgie time I need to have my own little bubble where I can go off and read a book.

70
00:06:50.940 --> 00:06:52.140
Go for a walk.

71
00:06:52.480 --> 00:06:54.380
Or do anything that I just think.

72
00:06:54.920 --> 00:07:02.969
I'm in my own space that always really helps me and I said going for a walk and talking to people you have someone I

73
00:07:03.039 --> 00:07:11.366
really need to and your support network or always if you want to sit around and I found a special the start of treatment

74
00:07:11.435 --> 00:07:17.820
if I was complaining upset about something people try and fix it and I'll try and give you a

75
00:07:18.140 --> 00:07:26.141
No, no no, I just I just want to moan and I want you to agree. How awful the world is and how tall is just not away and I

76
00:07:26.207 --> 00:07:30.440
think once you communicate to everyone around you what you need.

77
00:07:31.300 --> 00:07:34.800
Falling I wanna support so for me. It's been out here.

78
00:07:35.120 --> 00:07:35.920
Talk to someone.

79
00:07:36.740 --> 00:07:39.340
if you need to

80
00:07:40.140 --> 00:07:47.778
And I've always struggled with make my anxiety anxiety is never through the roof through all of this of course. I mean

81
00:07:47.843 --> 00:07:55.611
I'll be going up to the hospital for a blood test and you know Mum is dragging me by my foot when really is not and it's

82
00:07:55.676 --> 00:08:03.250
trying to find someone that you know is going to help fix at so it's reading a book so I love reading anything with a

83
00:08:03.315 --> 00:08:05.840
little bit of yourself help or you can.

84
00:08:06.240 --> 00:08:11.340
Take your mind off completely distracted and almost like that.

85
00:08:11.860 --> 00:08:12.760
caffeine

86
00:08:12.880 --> 00:08:21.880
I think if you need to speak to someone.

87
00:08:22.220 --> 00:08:23.320
outside of your

88
00:08:23.680 --> 00:08:30.080
You know your main group of humans do so seek out counseling if you need it. Speak to your hospital go to your GP

89
00:08:31.260 --> 00:08:34.560
What is Belle know what to say and they'll know how to help you?

90
00:08:34.740 --> 00:08:41.872
I think it's like taking that first step isn't recognising I feel bad. I need help and that is so impact on its own and

91
00:08:41.932 --> 00:08:49.184
then as you said you have that less. I like that like that. You ok now. I'm going to go read a book of Monday this but if

92
00:08:49.244 --> 00:08:53.140
you are feeling so bad by yourself then it's sticking their nose.

93
00:08:54.840 --> 00:08:56.840
amazing so

94
00:08:57.460 --> 00:08:59.960
Also, then she got a little bit into you.

0
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:07.998
Things as well and that help you as well. Cope. I really enjoy it. I am absolutely useless I like to think I'm one of

1
00:00:08.067 --> 00:00:16.271
these really flexible Yogi that you know her doing all these funnel-shaped really I can barely touch my toes, but I love

2
00:00:16.339 --> 00:00:20.100
it depending on how I feel. It's 8:40 hour of just you.

3
00:00:20.620 --> 00:00:21.520
sitting

4
00:00:22.660 --> 00:00:28.969
Practicing immobility you're getting flexible again and as I can't do heavier cos I can't go to gym because I'm used to

5
00:00:29.022 --> 00:00:35.384
being extra. I haven't got the strength. I'm tired walking up the stairs. I need to find somewhere to get those you know

6
00:00:35.437 --> 00:00:38.460
happy exercise endorphins and I find that when I do yoga.

7
00:00:39.400 --> 00:00:48.119
Play Calm like wearing back and I feel a company I feel like I've done something. Yeah, I hate myself off. I've done some

8
00:00:48.191 --> 00:00:54.100
yoga and I've got yourself a bit with a lot of its new mindfulness and meditation.

9
00:00:55.360 --> 00:01:01.761
I think that always helps the new after a transplant people sometimes don't mind your head approach to movement again

10
00:01:01.815 --> 00:01:08.381
after size that sounds like you find it something that really works for you and this focusing on that time and it's good

11
00:01:08.435 --> 00:01:13.360
for your body is good for your mind and movement. I think it's all coming at the transfer.

12
00:01:13.580 --> 00:01:20.480
I have no idea how weak I was going to have stiff. I was going to be and so excited again little walks.

13
00:01:20.780 --> 00:01:21.880
can you find

14
00:01:22.140 --> 00:01:27.440
Coming out of hospital you do you know I don't have two minute walk.

15
00:01:28.080 --> 00:01:31.780
absolutely exhaust you and I am I ever going to

16
00:01:32.280 --> 00:01:36.280
Do more get more physical or even have more energy, but it's everyday.

17
00:01:36.960 --> 00:01:39.460
I'm not even every day's whenever you feel like it.

18
00:01:39.640 --> 00:01:40.640
Just doing a little bit.

19
00:01:40.920 --> 00:01:44.920
And it really is just accepting it was going to do a little bit today little bit tomorrow.

20
00:01:45.560 --> 00:01:56.060
London all day I hit 10000 steps and it's you or no. I've just done my first you know yoga class.

21
00:01:56.540 --> 00:02:06.523
I can't wait to do next one next week as I'm going to exactly xx I got really frustrated when I came out the hospital

22
00:02:06.608 --> 00:02:16.592
thinking I'm never going to be able to do anything. I'm never going to be strong enough to go to the gym or do proper

23
00:02:16.677 --> 00:02:18.640
exercise or go running.

24
00:02:19.360 --> 00:02:24.748
And if you look like that you'll get so frustrated because you're just think the recovery is going to be so long way is if

25
00:02:24.793 --> 00:02:26.560
you if you literally take it day by day.

26
00:02:27.540 --> 00:02:29.840
Before you know it you'll be careful.

27
00:02:30.140 --> 00:02:41.458
can we sit down when you find out what works so you have Instagram so I can listeners that listen to This podcast follow

28
00:02:41.553 --> 00:02:51.740
your blog or checkout on Instagram so the best way is probably through my Instagram and Instagram is Georgie

29
00:02:51.820 --> 00:02:59.220
swallow and then on my Instagram I've got a link to my blog which is scribbles of a swallow brilliant and

30
00:02:59.540 --> 00:03:01.540
I just fine I honestly find.

31
00:03:01.660 --> 00:03:02.660
writing

32
00:03:02.860 --> 00:03:09.113
But if you have like a bit of frustration or something on your mind or you've been you know feeling a little bit emotional

33
00:03:09.164 --> 00:03:13.060
about something or even if it's a good news sitting down writing it all out.

34
00:03:14.100 --> 00:03:22.200
Getting rid of it on to your blog and I found it so so helpful and I mean you have a lot of time.

35
00:03:22.460 --> 00:03:37.956
Can you go to if you're not working a lot of time on your hands so so the words and you said let them go there because I

36
00:03:38.085 --> 00:03:38.860
think.

37
00:03:39.460 --> 00:03:45.621
Philosophy when I go through treatment their face with different with dilemmas and and different issues and things you

38
00:03:45.673 --> 00:03:51.260
can't necessarily talk in-depth with about other people because they don't understand so being able to sit.

39
00:03:51.520 --> 00:03:58.135
And get all of your feelings out on paper and you know I mean I found I just one and it was when I was talking about

40
00:03:58.192 --> 00:04:04.921
fertility treatments and I found myself writing like a pros and cons list and when I got home ok, alright have made my

41
00:04:04.978 --> 00:04:05.720
decision now.

42
00:04:05.940 --> 00:04:22.507
send it really helps this even process order situation and yeah work through that in your bed frame modern Fraser and

43
00:04:22.648 --> 00:04:23.640
Georgie

44
00:04:23.740 --> 00:04:28.940
Last but not least what advice. Would you give to someone who is going through a stem cell transplant?

45
00:04:30.280 --> 00:04:34.380
How long have you got I think for me?

46
00:04:34.920 --> 00:04:39.820
I reached out quite a few people who I know it just done one. I was very lucky. I had a close friend.

47
00:04:40.380 --> 00:04:41.080
who had

48
00:04:41.280 --> 00:04:44.880
Just a message to transfer a few months before I had as much as I wish.

49
00:04:45.080 --> 00:04:46.780
She never had to cross.

50
00:04:46.900 --> 00:04:54.661
It was very handy because she gave me a big long list of everything. I needed and on the less important scale of things

51
00:04:54.727 --> 00:05:02.619
you need to know of a stem cell transplant. What's the things in hospital? So you're going to be in there for a very long

52
00:05:02.684 --> 00:05:10.316
time and she told me take a mattress topper take your own duvet and pillows and I just never thought that I could you

53
00:05:10.381 --> 00:05:17.100
could you know sheet in those plastic crisp and she said bring it with you. You won't regret it and it.

54
00:05:17.400 --> 00:05:20.900
Honestly the best things I've bought and you know things that bring your own towel.

55
00:05:21.040 --> 00:05:27.921
Ring things to do like your books your iPad you know writing puzzles. You're probably use it for the first week and then

56
00:05:27.978 --> 00:05:34.802
you won't touch him again, but really nice to have and it's nice to have things in the room that feel a bit more homely

57
00:05:34.859 --> 00:05:37.440
like your space because they are quite clean.

58
00:05:39.160 --> 00:05:42.760
You know for enjoyment are there a hospital room so things are.

59
00:05:42.960 --> 00:05:49.660
Fake flowers I had a lovely night fake orchid in the corner and I'd wake up and isn't that lovely.

60
00:05:51.380 --> 00:05:53.780
That sounds of little things about your room.

61
00:05:54.060 --> 00:05:54.660
which

62
00:05:54.880 --> 00:05:59.380
Really really made a difference and I think before you going to send so transfer.

63
00:05:59.660 --> 00:06:05.420
Just go into it with an open mind I made the mistake of listening to everyone said and go on my expense will be exactly

64
00:06:05.468 --> 00:06:07.260
like that. You're trying to fit into.

65
00:06:12.200 --> 00:06:15.900
And really I mean when I went through I got quite unwell I had.

66
00:06:16.180 --> 00:06:22.884
Little bit of a bad experience and I had no someone else had said that they had that so I'm going you know I'm broken.

67
00:06:22.941 --> 00:06:26.180
It's not working or something. I'm doing something wrong.

68
00:06:26.840 --> 00:06:28.340
I think just going to end.

69
00:06:28.780 --> 00:06:32.380
this is going to help you you need this yet and just

70
00:06:32.600 --> 00:06:38.303
Go with the flow as much as you can and make sure you speak to me about what you need especially for the nurses the

71
00:06:38.352 --> 00:06:38.700
nurses.

72
00:06:38.800 --> 00:06:40.800
Incredible movie

73
00:06:40.940 --> 00:06:48.400
The one you're with 24/7 looking after yourself you need something if you have a question if you have a way she just need

74
00:06:48.461 --> 00:06:49.140
a good cry.

75
00:06:50.080 --> 00:06:56.280
Do it with the nurses they lie for you. They are incredible. They really are I mean I can't tell him out of meltdowns.

76
00:06:56.700 --> 00:07:14.600
You said that you cry and just be what's going on because it is going to be recognised.

77
00:07:16.680 --> 00:07:18.980
I think I'm another one that I

78
00:07:19.400 --> 00:07:26.446
I was really pleased I did is I took my own hair clippers with me cos I'm not sure it is without the hospital, but they

79
00:07:26.506 --> 00:07:30.000
have a hairdresser come in that one day a week or two days.

80
00:07:30.460 --> 00:07:35.960
and my hair was falling out and it said 3 or 4 days before the hairdressers coming in and I just thought

81
00:07:36.340 --> 00:07:39.340
Can't sit here with my hair coming out as I had my own.

82
00:07:40.000 --> 00:07:41.100
Close the door laugh.

83
00:07:41.600 --> 00:07:47.300
and that was a big help for me because watching your hair for I can be really challenging and I just

84
00:07:47.580 --> 00:07:53.480
Get it off get it done you to control. I'm going to do this. I need to do that was probably.

85
00:07:53.940 --> 00:07:56.340
Like a big day or a big thing for me, sorry.

86
00:07:56.800 --> 00:07:58.400
You are someone like me who?

87
00:07:58.800 --> 00:08:01.600
Don't like watching her that I'll be able to tolerate it.

88
00:08:02.640 --> 00:08:16.263
Hate having control things in your room having your own clippers and ownership you can bring to this is so important

89
00:08:16.380 --> 00:08:30.238
brilliant. So thank you so much for your benefit from listening to this so I really hope everything goes well with the

90
00:08:30.356 --> 00:08:32.940
rest of your recovery.
