We're delighted to say that the 41 Club has announced us as its charity of the year, continuing a strong tradition of supporting the organisation.

Announced at 41 Club’s Annual General Meeting on Saturday 26 April, the group, otherwise known as the Association of ex-round table members, will be supporting us through organising local fundraising events and encouraging people to join the Anthony Nolan register.

The 41 Club has around 17,000 members in over 700 clubs across Great Britain and Ireland while 41 Club International has around 40,000 members in 23 countries.

A long association

When Shirley Nolan started the appeal to get the Anthony Nolan Register off the ground she turned to her local Round Table for support. Since then generous members have supported Anthony Nolan, raising millions of pounds and signing up hundreds of thousands of people to the register.

Today many former members of the Round Table will be supporting Anthony Nolan in this partnership year as members of the 41 Club.

Jim Smith, President of the 41 Club said, “I'm absolutely delighted to have Anthony Nolan as my Presidential charity. I’m sure that thousands of 41 Club members remember with pride, as I do, our involvement when we were in the Round Table back in the 80s and 90s.”

During this time the Round Table transformed the register into an internationally recognised resource including raising £1 million which helped fund the permanent laboratories at the Royal Free Hospital.

Laura Watts, Senior Community Fundraising manager, Anthony Nolan said, ‘We’re thrilled the 41 Club have chosen to support Anthony Nolan in this special 40th Anniversary year for the charity.  Clubs across the country are planning a variety of events and will urge people to sign up and join the donor register.

‘It costs us £100 to recruit, test and look after each potential bone marrow donor – any one of them could be a match for someone with blood cancer. The more money raised by the 41 Club, the more lives we can save.’
