Bone marrow donor inspires hundreds to sign up to the register

Donor Barry Crackett, who last month flew to the US to meet his seven-year-old recipient Ryan Compton, has inspired hundreds of other young men to sign up to the Anthony Nolan bone marrow register.
 
In the week of Barry’s trip to Los Angeles, 754 people signed up to the register online – an 80% increase on the week before. Around 44% of applicants were male, compared to a typical weekly average of 30%. There were also nearly 12,000 website hits that week, an increase of 55% on a normal week.

We particularly need more young men aged 16–30 to sign up to the register, as they are the most likely to be chosen to donate yet account for just 11% of our register. If you wish to join the register, please fill our online application form.
