Fundraise in memory

Thank you so much for thinking about supporting Anthony Nolan in memory of someone close to you. By doing so, you’re helping us fulfil our vision of a world where every patient who needs us can survive and thrive.

What’s on this page?

It can be hard to know where to start when it comes to commemorating someone’s life, so here we’ve shared information on four different ways to fundraise.

Create a Tribute Fund for someone special

A Tribute Fund offers a wonderful place to remember your loved one and create a lasting legacy in their honour, alongside raising funds to support our lifesaving work. With a Tribute Fund, you’ll be able to:

  • Share memories and photos of your loved one with friends and family.
  • Help raise vital funds for Anthony Nolan in your loved one’s memory.
  • Light virtual candles in recognition of anniversaries and special dates.

Jillian's story

Jillian and her family

My husband Gary was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma and received a stem cell transplant in March 2021. Sadly he passed away just a few weeks after the transplant.

In Gary’s memory, our children, Anna and Ross, and I took on this 154k hike in the Highlands of Scotland… although Gary would have never quite believed I would be able to complete such a challenge!

We set up a Tribute Fund and shared our walk on this page. I wanted to have somewhere special to remember Gary. We got so much support from family and friends after he died, and I thought it would be a place to see how much Gary meant to people. It was helpful for me to create it.

We hope our efforts will help other families in the future, in Gary’s memory. I know if he had lived, he would have been fundraising too. It’s comforting to be able to visit the page and make a donation and keep his memory alive in that way. It’s a lovely thing to have.

Funeral donations and collections

Many people ask for donations to a charity close to their heart in lieu of flowers at funerals. If you’re considering asking friends and family to donate to Anthony Nolan, we can help you.

We can provide you with donation envelopes for your collection, or help you set up a funeral notice page dedicated to your loved one where people can donate online.

If you’d like to talk to someone about holding a Funeral Collection and request materials, please get in touch.

Fundraising in memory

Hold an event

You might choose to remember someone by holding an event or taking on a meaningful challenge in their honour. Doing something with others to celebrate the life of a loved one can be a wonderful way to mark their life and support each other. Whether you walk, run, swim, dance or dine, do it in their name. You can create and share your fundraising event through a Tribute Fund or JustGiving page.

Remembering Alice

Alice Byron

Promising writer Alice Byron was diagnosed with a blood disorder at just 20 years old. Her writing talent and incredible spirit were captured in her blog, which detailed life at university with a serious illness.

Tragically Alice’s blood disorder developed into leukaemia. She had a stem cell transplant in 2016, but it wasn’t successful and she died just a few weeks later, leaving her loved ones devastated.

In honour of Alice’s indomitable spirit, her family and friends set up Team Alice, resolving to carry on raising awareness and vital funds in her memory. They’ve raised over £150,000 so far – an incredible total honouring a very special person.
