Leicestershire Police is appealing for people to register as blood stem cell donors with Anthony Nolan to help save the life of one of their colleagues.

Leicestershire officer, Inspector Rik Basra is currently undergoing extensive treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and requires a blood stem cell transplant to save his life, but it must come from a matching donor.

‘I was first diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) in 2009; prior to the diagnosis I had always considered myself to be very fit and active, a regular gym goer and football player. The diagnosis was nothing short of devastating not just for me but my family. We went from a relatively busy “normal” life into a world of uncertainty about the future.’

Jenner Large, regional recruitment manager with Anthony Nolan, said, “Anthony Nolan does everything it can to find matches for the people who need them.  However, the challenge increases for a patient from any ethnic background because there are fewer people on the register from these groups.  It really is easier than many people think and you could save a life.”

You can join the register by completing an application online.
