We (which expression includes Anthony Nolan and Anthony Nolan Trading Limited), have a legal obligation under the Data Protection Act 1998 to ensure that all information about you is held and used in accordance with this Act.
If you join the Anthony Nolan register we will also hold sensitive personal information about you such as your tissue type, ethnic origin and medical details. Also, we will assign you a unique donor ID which we will use to provide information about you anonymously to transplant centres and other registries around the world for the matching and donation process.
Also, if you have consented to this, we will use your personal information to keep you informed about our activities as a fundraising charity, blood stem cell register and scientific research institute. We will only keep personal information which is relevant and will only hold it for so long as is necessary. If you have joined the Anthony Nolan register we may hold your personal information for quite a long time, because people usually stay on the Anthony Nolan register until they are 60.
All personal information is stored on a secure database. We will not supply your name and addresses to any third party except in accordance with the Data Protection Act. From time to time, we will send you “update your details” messages to help us stay in touch with you and, if you have given us your consent to contact you, we may use specialist companies to help us make sure we have your correct contact details. At all times, your personal details will be held securely and not be passed on to any other companies for their own marketing purposes.
You have a right under the Data Protection Act to see the information which we hold about you. We may charge a fee for this.
