Mrs Fran Burke BA

She made the decision to postpone treatment in order to have a family and is now a mother of two boys. She received a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor in 1995 and now leads a normal, busy family life. As Fran has experienced Anthony Nolan’s work firsthand, she gives the charity its human side. She believes she brings reality to trustee meetings, and ensures we’re always connected with our donors and people who need to find a match.
Lionel Cashin
Lionel has been a Trustee since 1996. After his 18-year-old brother died from leukaemia, he followed the Shirley Nolan’s TV appeal for her son Anthony in the 1970’s. He volunteered and worked with the Round Table to help the charity, officially joining as Director to create the Daisy Ball. Now a high-profile fundraising event, he has given it a strong marketing and branding identity. He says his role on the board is to be the voice of the everyday person. He has extensive management, marketing and charity administration experience, including roles at Mars Confectionery and was Director General of a UK occupational charity. He lives in East Yorkshire with his wife, Yvonne. They run the family newsagency.

Today they have 40 stores and are one of the largest privately owned general furniture retailers in the UK. He attended Daisy Balls and raised funds for Anthony Nolan well before he became a Trustee in 2007. He uses his own business experience to cast a commercial eye over the charity.
