Volunteering at a donor recruitment event

Every person on our register could save the life of a person suffering from leukaemia. The more people we have on the register, the more lives we can save.

Donor recruitment events are a a great way of inspiring people to join, and you could be part of our team. You’ll need to be able to commit to four, half-day events a year and it might involve travel up to 20 miles. We’ll give you training and we’ll even reimburse your travel expenses.

What kind of person do you need to be?

  • Warm, confident and friendly

  • Non-judgemental and diplomatic

  • Sensitive and articulate

  • Reliable and responsible

  • Flexible and punctual

  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality at the event

Role: Recruitment Event Volunteer

We want our events to feel relaxed and professional. We need your help to set up the waiting area, welcome potential donors, hand out relevant forms, answer basic questions and be on standby.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Greeting people to the clinic in a warm and hospitable manner. Visitors can include members of the public, potential donors, Anthony Nolan staff and patients etc.

  • Using your knowledge of Anthony Nolan and our procedures to answer basic questions, referring to a Medical Officer if necessary.

  • Handing out the appropriate leaflets and forms.

  • Checking people’s understanding of the process and commitment involved in registering.

  • Dealing with issues that prevent people from registering, such as weight or age, with tact and confidence.

  • Checking the application form to make sure questions have been fully answered and consent given.

  • Labelling saliva kits and forms and helping donors to complete their samples.
