A stem cell transplant is often the last chance to save a person suffering from leukaemia or a serious blood disorder. We match donors to the right patients, but we couldn’t do it alone.
Our support system is you and the other hundreds of volunteers, who fundraise, raise awareness and bring new recruits onto the register.
There are lots of reasons to volunteer for us - here are some of our favourites:
"I previously underwent a bone marrow transplant and my donor was found on the Anthony Nolan Register. I would like to give something back to the organisation that has helped me to still be here!"
"My brother was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in 1988, and he was extremely lucky to have two possible donors from his siblings. I was the better match and the transplant was a complete success but unfortunately four months later, septicaemia set in and he died. I then joined the register in the same year."
"I have been on the register for a number of years and have had the privilege of donating twice by both different methods to two different people."
"My four-year-old son had to have a transplant due to relapsed AML. He had an extremely rare tissue type so no living donors were available. Anthony Nolan helped us find him a cord blood donation as this was his only option. This highlighted to me how desperately short the donor register is and I will give my all in helping to recruit more donors. I want to help other families in a similar situation to our own."
