Organise a recruitment event

The more people we have on the register, the more likely it is that we can find a match for those who desperately need a stem cell transplant. You could help save lives by organising a recruitment event - it's a great way of growing the register. Young men are more likely to be asked to donate, so we ask that your recruitment event be geared towards helping us recruit more of them. As our work directly helps people, we’ve found a lot of companies and organisations find it a positive way to bring people together.

'At Virgin, we try to encourage as many young men and women as possible to give a little of their time so they can hopefully save a life. I am delighted for my company to support such a cause and recognise the achievements of my staff.' Sir Richard Branson, Virgin

Big or small
When Shoosmiths law firm ran a recruitment event, 267 employees joined the register. Three went on to donate stem cells and potentially save a life. But you don’t need to be a big company to run a recruitment event, or even a company at all. Lots of our supporters run recruitment events at clubs or church groups – anywhere where we can find young men who would like to be a potential lifesaver. Your efforts are the reason why we’re able to save two lives a day. If you think you can reach enough young men, we’d like to hear from you.

Get started
If you can answer yes to any of the following questions, then please contact us.

  1. Are you holding a large event that is likely to attract a high number of men aged 18-30?

  2. Are there more than 150 young males in your workforce/club/group?

  3. Do you have any contacts to help us target large universities or armed forces bases?

If you are a company please email the corporate team, or if you would like to find out more about organising a recruitment event within your organisation/group email the donor recruitment team your full name, location and phone number, how many people you think would attend the recruitment event and how many of them would be young men.

We can help you run the event on the day or send you everything you need to do it yourself. If you need help promoting it, we're on hand with help and advice. All you need to do is encourage people, particularly the young men, to sign up and take part on the day.

If you can’t answer yes to any of the above questions, you can still help us to grow the register, by emailing your friends, putting up posters or ordering recruitment packs.

Making the most of it
We don’t charge you to join but it costs around £100 to recruit, tissue type and maintain a new potential donor on our register. Team events such as sponsored runs or selling homemade cakes are great ways of covering the costs, and we have plenty of ideas. For more information, read our fundraising pages.
