Useful information
Making a Will can be a very personal decision and you may want to take some time to consider what is best for you.
If you are interested in supporting our lifesaving work with a gift in your Will then you might want to consider the different types of gift you can give.
The main two types of gift are Pecuniary legacies and Residuary legacies.
Pecuniary legacy
This is a gift in your Will of a specific sum of money such as £1,000.
Residuary legacy
This is a gift of the whole or a share of your estate after any specific amounts have been taken away. By giving in this way, once you have provided for your loved ones a small percentage of what remains could go a long way towards saving the lives of people desperately in need.
If you are interested in leaving a legacy to support our work then we would always suggest you seek legal advice to help decide what is best for you and your situation. Whatever the outcome, we really appreciate whatever people are able to give. If you want to further discuss the options please you can email our legacies manager Rufus Cruft.
Information if you want to leave a gift
We really appreciate you considering a gift in your Will to help us save the lives of people with blood cancer.
If you are looking to write your Will then you can download some example wording you could use to include Anthony Nolan in your Will.
Or if you already have a Will but would like to amend it to include Anthony Nolan, you can download and use our example Codicil form. However, we would always advise that you speak to a solicitor about making a Will or making any change to your existing Will by Codicil.
Frequently asked questions
Below are the answers to some common questions about leaving gifts in Wills. If you want more information or have any additional questions please contact us.
Q. Can I leave a legacy to Anthony Nolan? Or to The Anthony Nolan Trust
A. Founded in 1974, we’re a respected charity that runs the UK’s largest stem cell donor register. We now hold details of over 400,000 potential donors and provided 937 lifesaving transplants to patients last year. We depend on the generosity of people like you to support our lifesaving work. We are known as ‘Anthony Nolan’, but, please ensure that you use the charity’s legal name ‘The Anthony Nolan Trust’, which is our registered name, in your Will or Codicil.
Q. Can I choose what my gift is spent on?
A. Ideally, we would ask you to try not to limit the gift in your Will so that we can use it to meet the most urgent need. But we’re also very happy to accept gifts to fund a specific part of our work if that’s what you prefer.
Q. Can I choose how much I want to leave and does it have to be a lot of money?
A. You choose how much you want to give however large or small. Whatever the amount, your generosity helps our work to save the lives of people with blood cancer.
Q. Can I be sure my legacy will not be swallowed up by administration?
A. As a small organisation we already keep our costs to a minimum. We can assure you that the money you entrust to us won’t be eaten up by administration but will be used as effectively as possible.
