Facts and Stats
About Anthony Nolan
Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with blood cancer by matching them to people willing to donate their blood stem cells for lifesaving transplants.
In 2009/10 we found 937 matches. For every person whose life we save there is another we can’t because no match can be found for them.
There are just over 420,000 people on the register but it isn’t enough.
We want to double the number of lives we save every day.
Since 1974 we’ve given over 9024 people the chance of life.
Donating
Just 30% of people will be lucky enough to find a matching donor from within their families.
There is a 25% chance that a sibling will be a match for a patient.
80% of donations take place via Peripheral Blood Stem Cell collection (PBSC), a process similar to giving blood.
On average over the last four years, 77% of donations have been made by men.
