A major research focus at the Anthony Nolan Research Institute has been the study of the impact of different genetic markers on the clinical outcome of patients following haematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
The objective of this group is to provide the essential link between understanding the genetic information, interpreting this in the context of the clinical information in patients and ‘translating’ this into changes/improvements in practice in the patient setting.
One area on which we have focused is reducing the risk of disease relapse after transplant. We have identified donor factors which help us to select the most appropriate donor based on their genetic tests. The results of our studies allow us to undertake translational research projects which put into practice what we have learnt, and have both a clinical and laboratory focus.
