Our services

Patient appeals
If you’re a doctor looking to raise a patient appeal for stem cell donation, our Donor Recruitment Team can help.

Searching for a match
Our Search Team deals with requests from transplant centres. They approach us to find a match for their patient, and we look through our database and other registries to find possible donors or cord blood units.

First contact and testing
Once matches have been found, our Pre-Harvest Team contact the potential donors to arrange further tests. This narrows it down to the closest match.

Harvest Coordination
Once the best match has been identified, our Harvest Team make all the arrangements. They get the donation of stem cells from the donor to the person who needs the transplant, both from our donors and from international donors. They also coordinate the safe and timely delivery of cord blood units.

Courier service
Through our Harvest Team, we provide a volunteer courier service to transport stem cells from donors to patients.

Donor Welfare
The Welfare Team take care of our donors throughout the donation process: visiting them while they are in hospital and ensuring their welbeing post-donation. They pass anonymous correspondence between donors and recipients and communicate patient up-dates, where possible, to the donors.

Private testing
For those who want their tissue type identified but don’t wish join our register (or don’t meet the eligibility criteria) we offer a private tissue typing service.

Graft Identification Advisory Service (GIAS)
We are running pilot projects on GIAS with three UK transplant centres, giving them help and advice on donor and cord blood unit selection when requesting confirmatory typing and final work-ups. The pilot preliminary analysis and feedback show that GIAS helps to reduce the number of samples requested for confirmatory typing and improves graft selection turn around time. We plan to offer a service to our customers at the beginning of 2011, starting with Clinical Services Transplant Centres.
